Hutto man dies after brief standoff with police

A Hutto man is dead after he barricaded himself in his home during a welfare check by the Hutto Police Department Tuesday night.

Shawn Yi, 49, was found dead inside his residence by Hutto police officers and William County Sheriff's Office deputies. The cause of Yi's death was not available as of Wednesday evening.

According to a written release from the city of Hutto, police officers were dispatched to a residence on the 100 block of Caponi Fish Lane in Hutto at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday for a welfare check. The situation escalated when Yi reportedly barricaded himself inside the house.

Yi reportedly was armed, which prompted the deployment of additional resources to the scene. Hutto police were able to get in contact with Yi to try and de-escalate the situation.

In the process, nearby residents were asked to shelter in place during the standoff. Negotiation efforts were unsuccessful, and members of Hutto police's special response team and Williamson County Sheriff's SWAT team were able to gain entry into the residence where they found Yi's body.
