Local runners from Taylor and Hutto opened their cross country seasons Friday, Aug. 15, at the Leander Battle for Wilco Park meet.
For Taylor, Aaron Grimaldo-De Luna posted a time of 12 minutes, 39 seconds, while Estrada Antonio finished in 12:56. Luis Herrera-Lopez crossed the line at 13:03, followed by Taylor Reingold at 13:56.
On the girls’ side, Araceli Mena ran a time of 14:02, and Aubriana Alderete finished in 14:56.
Hutto had a strong turnout with eight runners competing in the boys’ division. Joshua Marquez led the Hippos with a time of 11:42, followed by Danny Edwards at 12:19, Ethan Acosta Salgado at 12:30, Matthew Reyna at 13:09, Jorge Morales-Aguirre at 13:52, Jeremiah Groenke and Lemma Yodahie both at 14:26, and Joshua Robles at 15:01.
In the girls’ race, Lana Brandt clocked a 14:56 finish. She was joined by Amberly Lyons in 16:11, Clara Hartman in 16:20 and Addyson Raynor in 19:05.
Taylor will return to action on Aug. 22 at the Westlake Invitational at Southeast Metro Park, while the Hippos will run at the Lockhart Invitational on Aug. 29.
