Taylor to host 9/11 parade Thursday evening

The annual march to remember first responders and others who lost their lives during the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, is set for Thursday evening.

The Memorial March and Patriot Day Observance is 7 p.m. and travels through downtown Taylor.

The route begins at West Seventh and Vance streets, proceeds east and turns south on North Main Street down to Third Street, then turns east toward East Porter Street, before heading north and ending at Heritage Square Park.

North Main will be closed from Seventh to Second streets from 5:308 p.m. along with other roads along the route.

Lineup for the observance begins at 6 p.m. at the starting point on West Seventh and Vance.

Nearly 3,000 people died in the 9/11 attacks, which were orchestrated by the terrorist group al-Qaida.

Two planes – American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 – each hit the World Trade Center in New York City, while American Airlines Flight 77 flew into the Pentagon in Washington D.C.

Meanwhile, United Airlines Flight 93 – hijacked by terrorists to hit the nation’s capital – crashed in a field in rural Pennsylvania.

Many of those who died on 9/11 were first responders from the New York Fire and Police departments.

Uniformed first responders and honor guards are invited to participate in Thursday’s march, organizers said.
