The Hutto Lady Hippos varsity volleyball
team came up short in a five-set battle, falling 3-2 to Cedar Ridge on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Sophomore hitter Ellie Witcher led Hutto with 15 kills and 12 digs to pace the offense.
Hutto stumbled in the first set with a 25-9 loss but responded with a 25-23 win in the second. The Raiders regained momentum in the third set, taking it 25-17, before the Lady Hippos fought back to even the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth. The deciding fifth set stayed tight until the final points, with Cedar Ridge edging out a 15-13 win.
Senior Victoria Escobedo added 11 kills and Isabella Michael chipped in 10 for Hutto, which dropped to 11-19 overall and 1-4 in district play.
The Lady Hippos looked to rebound Friday against Stony Point and return home for another district matchup versus Manor on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m.
