The Thrall Tigers will host the Troy Trojans on Friday, Sept. 19, at Thrall High School.
Thrall is coming off its first win of the season, a 43-36 victory over Eastside Early College, while Troy fell 41-29 to Rogers.
The Tigers finally found success on the ground last week as junior quarterback Weston Smiley opened the game with a 75-yard touchdown run. Thrall will look to build on that performance against a Troy defense that struggled to stop the run after Rogers moved the ball at will.
Smiley also continued to grow into the quarterback role, throwing multiple touchdown passes against Eastside. His ability to attack through the air will be key against a Trojan defense that is allowing more than 35 points per game.
Defensively, Thrall must improve against the run after giving up big rushing plays to Eastside. Troy is expected to test the Tigers’ front early and often.
Last season, Thrall fell 68-20 to the Trojans and will look for a much different result Friday night.
