The Taylor Ducks varsity football team will wrap up nondistrict play against the La Grange Leopards on Friday, Sept. 19, at La Grange High School.

Taylor will look to pick up its first win of the season before entering district competition. The Ducks are coming off a 48-7 loss to Lago Vista, while La Grange defeated Smithville, 41-7.

The Ducks’ offense will try to rebound after posting a seasonlow point total last week. Sophomore quarterback Johnny Guzman and freshman Jeremiah Caldwell are expected to share snaps once again. Guzman threw for 154 yards against Lago Vista, while Caldwell had 86 yards passing and a touchdown.

It remains uncertain whether sophomore wide receiver Damien Calico will play after missing last week’s game for undisclosed reasons. In his absence, senior wideout Zavier Stokes stepped up with 96 receiving yards and a score, and the Ducks will likely lean on him again if Calico remains out.

Defensively, Taylor must tighten up after allowing 339 passing yards and four touchdowns through the air last week. The Ducks have surrendered more than 40 points in each of their first three games and now face a La Grange offense averaging 30 points per contest.

The Leopards are led by junior running back Klayton Michalka, making run defense a key for Taylor. The Ducks will need steady production from their passing game and must get stops on third down to stay competitive.

Taylor will also look to avenge last season’s 35-7 loss to La Grange as it seeks its first victory of 2025.
