Wamble leads Lady Ducks to first district win

The Taylor Lady Ducks varsity volleyball team earned its first district victory with a five-set win over Jarrell, 3-2, on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Senior setter/outside hitter Peyton Wamble led the way with 14 kills and 22 digs.

The Lady Ducks dropped the first set 25-16 before fighting back with a 25-18 victory in the second.

Taylor then took a 2-1 lead after winning the third set 25-19, but the Cougars evened the match with a 25-14 win in the fourth.

Taylor dominated the final set, closing out the match with a 15-6 victory to secure its first district win. Wamble led the way, but senior libero McKenna Watson and junior hitter Tiana Candee also contributed strong performances.

Watson recorded nine kills and 22 digs, while Candee added eight kills and 12 digs. The Lady Ducks improved to 8-15 overall and 1-1 in district play, tying Gateway for third place in the standings.

Taylor faced Burnet on Friday and will go on the road to play Gateway on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 6 p.m.
