BARTLETT — Granger quarterback Wyatt Rochner accounted for eight of his team’s 11 touchdowns in the Lions’ 77-31 victory at Bartlett Friday
night. Rochner completed 14 of 19 passes for 294 yards and seven touchdowns. He also ran six times for 82 yards and a score.
“Everything was working,” Rochner said. “The offensive line did a great job. It all starts with those boys up front.”
Granger (4-0, 1-0 in District 13-2A-Division II) gained 591 yards of total offense. The Lions also ran for 297 yards on 27 carries with Caleb Hobratsch leading the way with 95 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. “Everyone did a fantastic job,” Rochner said. “The line, the receivers, the running backs were all on the same page. It was a really good offensive game.”
Although the game was dominated by Granger, it was Bartlett (1-3, 0-1 in 13-2A-DII) who had a hot start. Junior Tywon Walker returned the opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown to put the Bulldogs up 7-0 just 17 seconds into the game.
Bartlett rode that momentum on defense by forcing the Lions to punt on their first offensive drive. But Noah Hobratsch returned a punt to the Bartlett 14-yard line to set up a five-yard touchdown run from Caleb
Hobratsch. That score set up a string of 10 consecutive scoring drives for Granger. Rochner connected with Caleb Tucker three times for touchdowns and also hit Ryder Bice and Jo Sifuentes for scores as the Lions built a 43-19 lead at the half.
After the break, Rochner hit Kael Jackson and Noah Hobratsch for touchdown passes before scoring on a 44-yard run his final play of the night. Wyatt Johle added a 58-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring.
Bartlett was led by Seth Avalos in rushing (17 carries, 48 yards, two touchdowns), Ryder Castro in passing (11-28-3, 175 yards, TD) and Walker (five catches, 61 yards) and Aiden Botts (three catches, 60 yards, TD) in receiving.
