Commissioners issue 90-day burn ban in Williamson County

Commissioners issue 90-day burn ban in Williamson County

The Williamson County Commissioners Court issued a county-wide burn ban effective at 11:09 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, for up to 90 days due to increased drought conditions. The order may be lifted earlier by the Commissioners Court or County Judge if conditions improve within the 90-day period.

Under this order, it is a violation to burn any combustible material outside of an enclosure that contains all flames and sparks, or to authorize others to do so. The ban includes the burning of household yard waste such as leaves, grass, brush and other trimmings, as well as burning to clear land of trees, stumps, shrubs or other vegetation.

This order may be enforced by any duly commissioned peace officer. A violation is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500.
