Beleaguered development back at square one

HUTTO – After years of promises and legal battles, Cottonwood Properties is no closer to being developed. Last week, Hutto Economic Development Corporation’s board of directors fired its development partner and signaled their intent to look for another partner in the venture.

"The HEDC carefully reviewed the Cottonwood Properties project and decided it’s the right time to explore new development opportunities. Our priority is making decisions that benefit the community and support Hutto’s growth," said Don Carlson, HEDC Board Chair.

The rift between developer Midway and the EDC has been building since Midway was chosen to develop the property in 2023. At that time, the EDC was already having advanced discussions with an investor to bring in a grocery-anchored development. That project never came through.
