GEORGETOWN –– Appointed to his position last spring after his predecessor stepped down, Williamson County Judge Steven Snell has officially thrown his hat into the ring to seek election to the office.

Snell, a Republican, kicked off his campaign Wednesday to a packed venue at Mesquite Creek Outfitters.

Party primaries are set for March 3, 2026; runoffs are May 26; and the general election is Nov. 3.

“I want to be elected — not reelected — but elected for the first time…I think I’m the right guy for the job,” said Snell, a career educator by trade.

Snell was appointed to his role as county judge in April to fill the vacancy when Bill Gravell, also a Republican, left March 10 to take a position in the Trump administration as the Region 6 advocate for the Small Business Administration.

Snell was picked by the panel of county commissioners from among four finalists.
