The Taylor Ducks varsity basketball team moved to 2–0 on the season with a 73–46 win over the Caldwell Hornets on Monday, Nov. 25. Senior guard Kadrien Dreary led the Ducks, going 10-of-19 from the field for 24 points and eight assists.
The game was competitive early, with Dreary extending Taylor’s lead to 16–10 on a fast-break layup. Caldwell responded with four straight points to cut the deficit to 16–14, but Dreary answered with a 3-pointer to push the lead back to 19–14.
Taylor began to pull away in the second quarter after a 3-pointer from Oakley Lenart made it 27–18 with 5:40 left. Lenart struck again from deep to give the Ducks a 36–24 advantage.
Fast-break baskets from senior guard Braylen Rivers and sophomore Markell Fitzgerald helped Taylor push the lead to 52–34 in the third quarter. The Ducks then dominated the final frame, outscoring Caldwell 21–12 to close out the win.
Rivers and Fitzgerald also reached double figures, scoring 10 points each. Taylor shot 45% from the field and controlled the glass with 34 rebounds.
After an extended break, the Ducks looked to continue their early-season success as they faced Giddings on the road Tuesday before returning to action Thursday in the Lehman Tournament.
