Recycle live trees at county landfill

CHRISTMAS CLEANUP

HUTTO — The Williamson County Landfill at 600 Landfill Road is accepting live Christmas trees from residents for free recycling.

The service runs through Jan. 4, officials said.

According to officials, all trees must be bare; lights, ornaments and decorations must be removed; and flocked trees are not accepted.

Recycling Christmas trees helps reduce landfill waste because the trees are instead shredded into mulch and provided to residents at no cost for gardening, landscaping or other uses, officials said.

Contractors and nonresidents can purchase the mulch.

The landfill is closed Thursday, Jan. 1. Regular hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to noon Saturday.
