Accident reminder to wear seat belts

HUTTO POLICE:

HUTTO — A recent traffic accident that sent two to the hospital has police reminding motorists about the importance of wearing seat belts.

According to reports, the pair injured in a one-vehicle rollover 10:30 p.m. Dec. 27 on East Wilco Highway were not protected by restraints.

“A sad reminder of the importance of wearing seat belts,” said Deanna Lewis, a Hutto Police Department spokeswoman. “The vehicle had airbag deployments and seat belts would’ve greatly reduced the extent of (the occupants’) injuries.” Since the accident, one of vehicle’s occupants has returned home from an area hospital while the other is listed in stable condition in an intensive care unit, according to officials.

Police said the vehicle was headed west when it left the highway, hit a concrete embankment and flipped over onto the road.

No identities have been released.

Friday morning, the Police Department’s traffic unit used a drone to check measurements at the accident scene.

The mishap remains under investigation, officers said. There is no camera footage and no eyewitnesses have come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call traffic Sgt. Edward Mora at 512-759-5971.
