A fire that may have started in an outside trash can and spread to a home broke out just two hours into the new year, Taylor firefighters said.
No injuries were reported in the blaze at a residence in the 500 block of Mockingbird Lane that damaged the roof and attic, authorities said.
First responders rushed to the home about 1:45 a.m. Thursday, according to a city spokesman.
A resident tried to douse the flames with a fire extinguisher prior to the arrival of firefighters, who quickly brought the blaze under control, officials said.
An initial investigation indicates the fire appears to have started in a backyard trash receptacle and spread to the roof, officials said.
There was no smoke or fire inside the home, according to authorities.
