HIPPOS SOCCER TEAMS COMPETE IN TOURNAMENT PLAY

HUTTO – The Hutto Hippos boys varsity soccer team opened the 2026 season last week with a strong showing, finishing 2-1 in tournament play at Burger Center in Austin.

Hutto got off to an impressive start in its season opener, cruising past Luling with an 8-0 victory. The Hippos continued their momentum in their second match, edging Hays 2-1 in a closely contested game to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

The Hippos closed tournament play with a narrow 2-1 loss to Akins, finishing the week with a winning record and several positives to build on moving forward.

Senior Ethan Paone and junior Sebastian Gonzalez led the Hippos offensively as the top returning scorers, providing a steady presence in the attack as Hutto began the season.

Hutto now sits at 2-1 overall as it opens district play against Cedar Ridge. The Hippos will then hit the road to take on Manor on Friday, Jan. 16, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Hutto girls varsity soccer team also competed in tournament action last week, traveling to Georgetown, where it faced a challenging slate of opponents.

The Lady Hippos dropped their opener to The Woodlands, 3-0, before suffering a narrow 1-0 loss to Grapevine. Hutto closed the tournament with a 3-1 defeat to Georgetown.

Following the tournament, the Lady Hippos fell to 2-5 overall on the season.

Hutto will look to regroup as it opens district play against Cedar Ridge on Tuesday before traveling to Manor on Friday, Jan. 16, with kickoff set for 7:15 p.m.
