The Taylor Ducks varsity soccer programs continued district play Friday, Jan. 16, with both the boys and girls teams picking up wins over the Smithville Tigers.
Boys
The Ducks earned their most lopsided win of the season with an 8-0 victory over the Tigers. Taylor scored five goals in the first half and added three more after the break to secure the shutout.
Rivaldo Granados led the Ducks with two goals and an assist, while Mateo Lopez also found the net twice. Jose Lopez Jr. and Aaron Grimaldo each recorded a goal and an assist, and Andres Luna and Angel Rodriguez added one goal apiece.
Taylor improved to 5-3-1 overall and 1-1 in district play. The Ducks faced Giddings on Tuesday before press time and will travel to Rockdale on Friday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m.
Girls
The Lady Ducks earned a 5-1 win over Smithville. The teams were tied 1-1 at halftime before Taylor pulled away with four unanswered goals in the second half.
Freshman Catalina Valverde led the way with two goals, while juniors Analisa Arredondo, Kaylie Chavez and Kaitlyn Crane each scored once.
Crane, sophomore Kinzie Johnson, senior Avery Paulson and senior Zoe Telles all recorded assists.
The Lady Ducks moved to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in district play. Taylor played Giddings on Tuesday before press time and will travel to Rockdale on Friday, Jan. 23, at 7:15 p.m.
