Ducks soccer programs sweep Giddings

The Taylor Ducks girls and boys varsity soccer teams both picked up district victories over Giddings on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The Lady Ducks earned a dominant 4-0 shutout, while the boys followed with a 5-2 win over the Buffaloes.

Girls

Sophomore Samantha Schroeder delivered a breakout performance, scoring three goals to lead the Lady Ducks to a 4-0 victory over Giddings.

Taylor jumped out to a fast start, netting three goals in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into the break before adding one more goal in the second half to seal the shutout.

Junior Kaitlyn Crane added a goal, while senior Marisol Chicas and sophomore Peyton Wamble each recorded an assist. With the win, the Lady Ducks improved to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in district play.

Taylor faced Rockdale on Friday and will return to action on the road at Caldwell on Friday, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m.

Boys

Aaron Grimaldo paced the Ducks with two goals as Taylor rolled past Giddings 5-2.

Jonathan Sanchez and Mateo Lopez Rivera also found the back of the net. Rivaldo Granados, Angel Rodriguez and Adan Torres each tallied an assist in the win.

The Ducks improved to 6-3-1 overall and 2-1 in district play. Taylor took on Rockdale on Friday and will travel to face Caldwell on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 7:15 p.m.
