GRANGER — The Granger Lions boys varsity basketball team delivered a dominant performance Tuesday night, rolling past the Holland Hornets 80-28 in a district matchup at Granger High School.
Senior Kael Jackson powered the Lions with a game-high 30 points, setting the tone early as Granger jumped out to a commanding firstquarter lead and never looked back.
The Lions wasted little time asserting control, racing out to a 12-2 advantage within the first four minutes of action.
Granger continued to push the tempo and closed the opening period ahead 26-12, with Jackson accounting for 13 points in the quarter.
Holland showed brief signs of momentum early in the second quarter, opening the period with four straight points to cut the deficit to 26-16.
That run was quickly answered by Granger, which forced multiple turnovers and converted them into easy transition baskets.
The Lions dominated the second quarter 26-6 to take a 52-18 lead into halftime. Junior Jett Holly sparked the run with eight consecutive points off turnovers, finishing the night with 12 points.
Granger remained in control after the break as Jackson added seven points in the third quarter. The Lions extended their lead to 65-25 heading into the final period, continuing to apply pressure on both ends of the floor.
Senior guard Kye Welles finished second on the team in scoring with 15 points, while senior Wyatt Rochner added eight.
Granger closed the game on a 15-3 run, showcasing its depth and defensive intensity. With the victory, the Lions improved to 15-8 overall and 4-1 in district play.
Granger faced Bartlett on Friday after press time and will return home Tuesday, Jan. 27, when it hosts Milano at 7 p.m.
