Williamson County implements burn ban

Williamson County implements burn ban

Because of increased drought conditions, Williamson County Commissioners issued a countywide burn ban Tuesday morning during Commissioners Court. The ban went into effect at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The burn ban is in effect for up to 90 days. The order may be lifted earlier by the Commissioners Court or County Judge if conditions improve.

Under this order, it is a violation to burn any combustible material outside of an enclosure that contains all flames and sparks, or to authorize others to do so. The ban includes the burning of household yard waste such as leaves, grass, brush and other trimmings, as well as burning to clear land of trees, stumps, shrubs, or other vegetation.

This order may be enforced by any duly commissioned peace officer. A violation is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500.
