An early morning fire Saturday which caused a duplex to be deemed a total loss is believed to be an act of arson.
Betty Morgan, 63, was taken into custody by officers with the Taylor Police Department after a fire damaged both units in a duplex, including her own. As of Monday afternoon, Morgan remained in the Williamson County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
According to Taylor police, the agency was dispatched to the 200 block of East Eighth Street for a structure fire. Units from the Taylor and Hutto Fire Department responded to the scene and were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.
The unit was located at the Olson Village apartment complex, 311 E. Seventh St. No injuries were reported, but the cause of the blaze was believed to be intentional after investigation from Taylor fire.
Following the investigation, Taylor police arrested the suspect. According to Shea Goltzman, executive director of the Taylor Housing Authority, this was the first fire at one of her agency's complexes in about 20 years.
