Taylor PD arrests woman in connection with duplex fire

in lieu of posting a $50,000 bond.

The blaze in the 200 block of East Seventh Street in the Olson Village apartment complex was turned in about 6 a.m., officials said.

The apartments are overseen by the Taylor Housing Authority.

A 63-year-old woman charged with arson is accused of setting a fire that damaged her duplex and a neighbor’s Saturday, investigators said. Betty Morgan remained Tuesday in the Williamson County Jail in Georgetown “Luckily, our tenants let us know (about the fire),” said Shea Goltzman, executive director of the housing authority.

Units from the Taylor Fire Department and Hutto Fire Rescue quickly extinguished the blaze and no injuries were reported..

Following an investigation, Taylor police made an arrest, though no motive was released in the case.

According to Goltzman, this is the first fire at one of the housing authority’s complexes in about 20 years.

The occupant of the other duplex unit stayed with family members during the weekend before relocating to new digs at Olson Village, according to Goltzman.

The director said the residents in the units have access functioning fire-safety equipment.

“We make sure and service our smoke alarms and fire extinguishers,” Goltzman said.

“We make sure those devices are working and that neighbors know each other in the event of an emergency. We ensure that our community acts like a community.”

In a statement on social media, Goltzman praised the “rapid response” of the first responders.

“We are deeply grateful for the strength, compassion and responsiveness of this community,” she said. “Taylor shows up for its neighbors and (Saturday) was no exception.”

“We make sure and service our smoke alarms and fire extinguishers.”
