The Taylor Ducks varsity soccer teams both fell to the Salado Eagles on Tuesday, March 10, as the boys dropped a 2-0 decision and the girls suffered an 8-1 loss.
Boys
The Ducks battled throughout the night against the top team in the district but ultimately came up short in a 2-0 loss to the Eagles.
Salado scored both of its goals in the first half and held Taylor scoreless the rest of the way despite several defensive stops and efforts to create chances late in the match. With the loss, the Ducks fell to 8-7 in district play as they prepared for a must-win matchup against Manor New Tech on Friday.
According to Head Coach James Wooten, Taylor needed to beat the Titans outright, and Giddings and Rockdale had to lose as well. Giddings took on Salado and Rockdale faced Cameron on Friday.
Girls
The Lady Ducks suffered their toughest loss of the season as Salado controlled the match from start to finish in an 8-1 victory.
The Eagles built momentum early, scoring three goals in the first half, before adding five more goals after halftime to seal the win.
Taylor’s lone goal came in the first half when junior Kaitlin Crane found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Sam Schroeder.
Despite the loss, the Lady Ducks remain firmly in the postseason picture with a 12-3 district record as they wrapped up the regular season against Manor New Tech on Friday.
Taylor’s playoff matchup is already set, as the Lady Ducks will face La Vega in the bi-district round on Thursday, March 19, at 6 p.m. The game will be played at John Glover Stadium in Little River Academy.
