HUTTO – The Hutto Independent School District recently announced the promotion of Jonathan Spradley as the new head coach of the Hippos boys soccer program after he served as an assistant under former head coach Joshua Johnson for three seasons.

Spradley brings both familiarity and experience to the role as he enters his fourth season with the Hippos program. He spent the past three years as the team’s assistant boys soccer coach and has built strong relationships with many of the players who are expected to return next season.

In addition to his time at Hutto, Spradley has compiled 14 years of coaching experience across Central Texas with previous stops at Atkins, Pflugerville and Round Rock. His background working with multiple programs in the area is expected to help provide stability for a Hutto team looking to take a step forward in District play.

The Hippos are aiming for a turnaround after finishing the 2025-26 season with a 5-13-1 overall record and a 3-12-1 mark in district competition. Hutto has not reached the postseason since the 2023-24 campaign when it advanced to the second round of the playoffs before falling to Garland.

Spradley inherits a roster that returns several key contributors, including two of the team’s leading scorers from last season in junior Daniel Hernan and sophomore Braylon Jackson. Jackson made an immediate impact as a freshman, while Hernan emerged as one of the team’s top offensive threats throughout district play.

With experience returning on the field and a coach already familiar with the program taking over, the Hippos will look to build momentum heading into the 202627 season.
