HUTTO – The Hutto Lady Hippos varsity volleyball team battled through a back-andforth match Tuesday, Aug. 25, earning a 3-2 victory over the Hawks at the Hutto High School gym.
Hutto got off to a strong start, narrowly taking the opening set 26-24 in a competitive battle. The Lady Hippos, however, struggled to maintain their momentum as the Hawks responded by winning the next two sets, 25-15 and 25-13, to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Facing a mustwin fourth set, Hutto bounced back and controlled the pace, securing a 25-18 victory to even the match at 2-2 and force a decisive fifth set.
The Lady Hippos carried that momentum into the final set, battling the Hawks for every point before eventually pulling away for a 15-11 victory. Junior Trinity Durst delivered the deciding point with a game-winning kill, sealing the five-set victory for Hutto.
The win moved the Lady Hippos to 10-9 overall on the season. Hutto has experienced its share of ups and downs early in the season but continued to show resilience by overcoming a 2-1 deficit and closing out the match at home.
Hutto will look to build on the victory when it returns to the court Tuesday, Sept. 1, against Stony Point. The match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Hutto High School.
