HUTTO – A blaze Monday afternoon that destroyed a barn and claimed the life of a dog remains under investigation, according to Hutto Fire Rescue.
Crews at 3:39 p.m. Aug. 24 rushed to the 1000 block of CR 138 at 3:39 p.m. and arrived at 3:41 p.m. to find the barn “fully involved.”
Firefighters working under a heat advisory where temperatures soared to nearly triple digits brought the blaze under control within an hour, but not before the structure collapsed.
The conflagration also spread into nearby brush, but first responders were able to protect an adjacent residence, according to reports.
No evacuations were ordered outside the property where the fire occurred.
Though injuries to people were reported, firefighters later confirmed a dog inside the barn did not survive, according to a social-media post.
Crews remained on the scene for several hours to extinguish remaining “hot spots” and to clean up.
Hutto Fire Rescue also coordinated with other agencies to bring in heavy equipment for dozer operations, helping expose and extinguish areas that remained at risk, officials said.
On Tuesday, authorities said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Hutto Fire Rescue was assisted by Round Rock, Pflugerville and Taylor fire departments, Williamson County Emergency Services District No. 10, Williamson County ESD No. 6 Fire/Rescue, Williamson County Emergency Services, the Hutto Police Department, the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, Hutto Public Works and Oncor Electric Delivery Co.
