The Taylor Ducks opened district play with a 77-0 blowout victory over Northeast Early College Raiders on the road on Friday, Sept. 25.
This result echoes their last season meeting, where the Ducks silenced Northeast at home 63-0.
“The guys played well,” said Taylor head coach Earven Flowers.
“We made some things happen earlier in the game with special teams, and we took advantage of opportunities on defense.”
Taylor established their lead early, setting the score at 56-0 for halftime.
Junior quarterback Johnny Guzman went 9 for 13 with three touchdowns and 115 yards.
Senior wide receiver Eric Walker II accounted for eight of the 19 total carries going 172 yards, just 30 yards shy of his season best.
The Ducks padded their victory with three additional touchdowns spread between the third and fourth quarters, finalizing their win
at 77-0. The Ducks are now 4-0 and have picked up 202 points, the third most in district.
Taylor will look to extend their win streak when they travel to take on the Canyon Lake Hawks on Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. The Hawks are currently 1-2 and ranked sixth in district.
The last meeting between the Hawks ended in a 63-19 loss and Taylor’s elimination in the first round of district playoffs.
“That game, I feel like it changed the course of our program because it made us really reevaluate some of the things that we were doing,” said Flowers. “We’re a much better team than we were that night in the playoffs, and we’re anxious to play this game to test that.”
