Granger Lion varsity football struggled offensively against Hearne Eagles, falling 21-7 on the road Friday, Oct 2.
This was the first recorded meeting between the two programs, with both teams entering the game on a win streak.
The Eagles dominated from the beginning, leading 21-0 at the end of the first half.
The Lions would not find the endzone until a passing touchdown deep into the fourth quarter, putting Granger behind 21-7.
Just after, a Granger quarterback completed a pass to a Lion receiver who then made his way into the endzone. No touchdown was awarded due to an illegal procedure call, stifling the Lion’s offense.
The Lion’s defense in the second half would prevent any additional Eagle touchdown, closing the night out with a 21-7 loss.
Granger now holds a split 3-3 overall record and 1-1 for district play.
The Lions sit at number four on district rankings.
The Lions will rest on a bye this week before hosting the undefeated Thorndale Bulldogs on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. In their previous meeting during pre-season play last year, Granger defeated Thorndale 42-21.
The Bulldogs sit at the top of district rankings, coming off their first blowout victory of the season at 67-0 against Moody.
