Taylor Ducks fell to Canyon Lake Hawks 70-35 on Friday, Oct. 2, picking up their first district loss on homecoming night.

Taylor entered the match eager to avenge a first-round 63-19 defeat by the Hawks in playoffs last season.

The Hawks currently hold a 2-2 district record and are now ranked fifth in district.

Taylor held the lead a handful of times, finishing the first quarter with a 14-7 advantage.

Canyon Lake equalized the score for the first time in the second quarter, with a 1-yard rushing touchdown by senior running-back Ryan Reyna.

The Ducks fought back five minutes later with a 46-yard rushing touchdown by senior running-back Eric Walker II, putting Taylor up 28-21. The Hawks struck once more in the second with a 7-yard touchdown by senior quarterback Jace Wheeler.

Taylor was unable to keep the first half momentum going, getting outscored 28-0 in the third and falling behind 56-28.

Junior quarterback Johnny Guzman scored the final Duck touchdown in the fourth with a 6-yard rushing touchdown. Canyon Lake finalized its victory moments later with a 5-yard rushing touchdown by senior running-back Ryan Reyna, bringing the final score to 70-35.

The Ducks will look to reclaim their rank as they travel to take on Tivy on Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. The Antlers are currently 5-0, coming off a narrow 70-66 victory over Davenport.
