Skybox seeks rezoning for Hutto Megasite

Skybox seeks rezoning for Hutto Megasite

An agreement between Hutto Economic Development Corp and Skybox Datacenters that expires in February sent the developer to City Council to ask for a 140-acre parcel to be rezoned with pre-approval for a data center and power station, even though there is currently no tenant for the property, which is within the Hutto Megasite.

“The situation with (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) has become more challenging,” Skybox Chief Development Officer Haynes Strader of Skybox told Council at its Oct. 1 meeting. “If we can secure power, which may take another two years, we would commence construction on the next phase of the data center campus which would be our fifth and sixth data center in the Megasite.”

Council approved the rezoning request with stipulations that the developer use closed loop cooling technology, adhere to Hutto land development codes and pay local sales taxes for all construction and power generation at the site.
