Annual mobile mammography benefit returns Oct. 17
A mobile mammography program that has logged more than 53,000 miles across Central Texas is asking for community support at its second annual fundraiser.
The Lone Star Circle of Care’s Big Pink Bus has served Travis, Bastrop, Williamson, Bell, Burnet, Caldwell and Hays counties since 2021, bringing affordable mammography services directly to patients. The bus has provided more than 10,000 mammograms, either free or at low cost, diagnosing more than 80 women with breast cancer and connecting them to treatment.
“For five years, the Big Pink Bus has brought life-saving mammography services directly to women across Central Texas,” LSCC CEO Jon Calvin said in a release. “This milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to early detection and expanding access to care.”
The program also supports patients beyond their first visit. More than 1,800 have received follow-up help, including guidance through additional imaging, diagnosis and treatment when needed, officials said.
Community partnerships allow the bus to serve patients at health centers, workplaces, churches and social service organizations.
LSCC provides primary care for all ages and serves almost 100,000 patients annually.
The Big Pink Benefit fundraiser will be held Oct. 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 7000 Woodhue Drive in Austin.
The program is supported through operating revenue, grants, community contributions and funds raised at the benefit. The event will feature a brunch with silent and live auctions, followed by a program showcasing women whose health has been directly affected by the bus.
