City releases top five names for robotic mowers

Taylor residents have narrowed the choices to five pairs of names for the city’s two new robotic mowers at the Taylor City Cemetery.

The city announced the finalists on its Facebook page: Bugs and Daffy, Pancho and Lefty, Laverne and Shirley, Wyatt and Doc, and Bert and Ernie.

Residents can vote for their favorite pair through Oct. 28 via the city’s Facebook and then a selection will be made.

To vote, residents can fill out an online form at https:// forms.cloud.microsoft/r/7Li-UEqyHVw.

The city recently added two ECHO Turf Mower 1000 robotic mowers to maintain the cemetery.

The machines operate on their own and return to their charging stations when they need power.

According to ECHO, the TM-1000 uses up to eight times less energy than conventional mowers. Each mower has three floating cutting heads and nine stainless steel blades designed to follow the contours of the ground.

The mowers can also be monitored and controlled remotely through a smartphone app or online portal.

The two mowers cost $59,725.42, according to reports. The City Council approved funding from the utilities budget on Aug. 13 Parks and Recreation Department officials said the mowers will free human staff to tackle other assignments around the city.
