Hutto comes up short at Harker Heights

HARKER HEIGHTS — The Hutto High School boys varsity basketball team continued 6A-District 12 play on the road Tuesday, Jan. 23 and the Hippos had their rally come up short in a 63-54 loss to the Knights of Harker Heights High School.

Despite the Hippos being down 11-0 by the end of the first quarter, this team rallied back in the second quarter as Hutto junior Landyn Rosow hit a trio of three-pointers in the frame to get his team within a 30-21 deficit by halftime.

In the third quarter, the Hippos got to within four points on multiple occasions, but were unable to get closer as the Knights pulled away down the stretch. Harker Heights was then able to keep Hutto at bay in the final frame and led by as many as 14 points.

Scorers in the loss for the Hippos were senior Byron Piper with a team-high 10 points, Rosow with nine points, senior Zachary Hicks with nine points, junior Cylin Tate with eight points, sophomore Malachi Hilby with eight points, senior Dylan Patrick with five points and junior Jacob Bell with five points.

Hutto (12-14 overall, 3-4 district record) under Head Coach Gant Caraway is scheduled Jan. 26 to host Temple High School and will travel Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Copperas Cove High School.
