A possible life-changing opportunity for students is coming to Taylor. A trade school has been announced, however, the first step begins next month.

Texas Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area, S&D Plumbing, and Coppera Plumbing & Commercial Services invites the public to attend a signing day for the plumbing trades, which will showcase students entering a pre-apprenticeship and registered apprenticeship program.

The event will be held Friday, Aug. 11 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Taylor Independent School District Events Center, 3101 N. Main St.

“We’re excited to kick off our Signing Day with our Department of Labor approved Apprentice Program where we are working to redefine the trades and support entrepreneurship within the trades,” said Lindsie O’Neill Almquist, president of the recently launched Craftsman College, which will be partnering with this program in the near future.

The signing day will feature remarks by Paul Fletcher, CEO of Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area; Adriana Cruz, executive director of Economic Development & Tourism for Governor Greg Abbott; Lee Price, Texas State director, U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship; Frank Denton, chairman, Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners; Rep. John Carter, with the 31st Congressional District of Texas; Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell; Mayor Brandt Rydell and others.

“Craftsman College is redefining the trades,” said Almquist, a veteran teacher and administrator. “We’re working with the US Department of Labor and school districts to create innovative environments for entrepreneurial students in the building of a trades school. It is focused on improving the lives of area families for generations.”
