Carmen Rodriguez, 88, also lovingly known as “Momo”, passed peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023, at Baylor Scott & White in Temple.

Carmen was born Sept. 29, 1935, in San Benito, to Genaro and Camila Tamez.

On Oct. 31, 1954, she married the love of her life, late husband Placido Rodriguez, Sr. known as “Popo” and for the next 68 years they built their home and raised their family of seven in Bartlett.

She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, which gave her great joy. For more than 35 years, Carmen devoted her life to helping the elderly population at the local nursing home as a certified nursing assistant. Carmen also devoted 10 years to Bartlett’s family grocery store business.

In her spare time, she enjoyed playing at local bingo halls and cooking special meals for her family. Some of the favorites included her carne guisada, her famous empanadas and homemade banana pudding.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Genaro and Camila Tamez; her husband, Placido Rodriguez, Sr.; her siblings, Margarita Hernandez, Carlos Tamez, Abelardo “Lalo” Tamez and Ernesto Tamez, Sr.; and great granddaughter, Alexys Carrillo.

Carmen is survived by her seven children,

Sylvia Salazar, Sally Fuentes (Benny), Placido Rodriguez, Jr.

(late Judy), Alice Solis (Ricky), Benny Rodriguez (Patsy), Jesse Rodriguez, Sr. (Belia), Melinda Anderson (Steven); 18 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind great friends, many of whom she spent time with playing bingo.

All services for Carmen “Momo” Rodriguez, will be held Monday Oct. 9, at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger officiated by Rev. Hilario Guajardo.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. followed by Rosary at 10 a.m. then funeral mass at 11 a.m.

The burial services will be immediately afterward at Holy Cross Cemetery in Granger.

Pallbearers include her six grandsons, Justin Salazar, Brandon Salazar, Eric Solis, Jesse Rodriguez Jr., Joshua Rodriguez and Colton Anderson.

The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors and nurses for the care and attention to Carmen while at Baylor Scott and White in Temple.
