Nancy Mokry

Nancy Mokry

Nancy Ann Mokry, 80, of Taylor, Texas, died on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

Nancy was born on July 12, 1944, at Swanson Hospital in Taylor to Frank and Annie Malish. A proud lifelong resident of Taylor, she graduated from Taylor High School in 1962 and was honored as the Queen of the Beyersville SPJST May Fete that same year.

Nancy loved attending local dances, and it was there that she met the love of her life, Raymond Mokry. They were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Nov. 24, 1963, and were blessed with three children: James, Deana and Janlyn.

Nancy began working at Isensee’s Grocery Store at a young age and often spoke fondly of her job at the Dari Treat Diner, which was owned by her aunt and uncle, Francis and Henry Polasek. Early in their marriage, she worked alongside Raymond at the Taylor Daily Press and later held a secretarial position with a local attorney.

She also worked at Gibson’s Department Store and TG&Y before choosing to stay home to raise her family. Later in life, she returned to work as a cashier at TH Johnson Elementary School.

Nancy had a deep love for music and dancing, and she never passed up an opportunity to enjoy both. She also enjoyed painting ceramics and crafting, and was drawn to the beauty of gemstones. She loved to discover the history and origins behind each one.

Always stylish, Nancy loved to shop and take pride in her appearance. She dearly missed her husband and often reminisced about the joy they shared dancing and visiting casinos together.

Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Mokry; her parents, Frank and Annie Malish; her brother-inlaw, Jimmy Wentrcek and many brothers and sisters-in-law from the Mokry Family.

She is survived by her children, James Mokry and wife Annette, Deana McLeroy and husband Warren, and Janlyn Reed and husband Bill. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Hailey Heeke and husband Brian, McKenna Mokry, Quade Mokry, and Caleb McLeroy; and her great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Rylie Heeke. In addition, she leaves behind her sister, Linda Wentrcek, and Linda’s husband, Tom Tucker; her brother-in-law, Alfonse Mokry and wife Barbara; her sister-inlaw, Shirley Mokry and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will take place from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at Providence Funeral Home, 807 NW Carlos G. Parker Blvd., Taylor, with a rosary to follow at 7. The Mass will take place from 2-3 p.m. Friday, July 11, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 301 E. Fourth St., Taylor.
