Lou Bergstrom

Lou Bergstrom, 90, of Taylor, Texas, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and beloved member of her community, died on Aug. 15, 2025.

Lou was the cherished daughter of Nelson and Pearl Brice of Bracketville, Texas. Raised on a South Texas ranch, Lou graduated Uvalde High School before marrying John “Big Lou” Bergstrom and relocating to Central Texas. The family moved to Taylor in 1956.

Lou was known for her bright smile, wit and keen insight. She spent almost four decades proudly employed at City National Bank, rising to the office of Vice President. Highly respected by her peers, she also served a term as President of the Taylor Chamber of Commerce. Lou was an active member of Saint James Episcopal Church. Lou was also an avid lover of animals, often taking in or supporting abandoned cats and dogs.

She is preceded in death by her parents Nelson and Pearl Brice, husband, Lou, her daughter, Gayle, and her brothers Arlie Crump and Sam Smith. Lou is survived by her son, Jay and wife Julia, of Carlsbad, California; her grandchildren Jack, of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; and Jenna, of Carlsbad, California; and her nephews Jeff (Sharon) Smith of Corpus Christi and Jim (Bonnie) Smith of Kerrville.

A memorial service is planned for this fall with a date to be announced.

The family would like to express appreciation to her friends at City National Bank and Saint James Episcopal Church for their moral support during her battle with dementia, as well as the employees of the SPJST Assisted Living for making her feel welcomed during her 6-month stay there.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ASPCA (PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929) or the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org/).
