James “Buddy” Townsend
James “Buddy” Townsend

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Karyl Moehnke Townsend and his brother Mike Townsend and his wife Laura. Buddy and Karyl had three children, Bryan Townsend and his wife Ute, Yvette Townsend Gonzales and her husband Raul and Steven Townsend and his wife Michelle.
They had 10 grandchildren: Kristen Townsend, Kallie Townsend, Jett Townsend and wife Kate, Colbi Bruce and wife Sheila, Jason Bruce and wife Bri, Kirby Townsend Rhabani and husband Malek, Kara Townsend, Kade Townsend, Kole Townsend and Kiley Townsend. He also had five greatgrandchildren: Jackson Bruce, Abbie Bruce, Otto Townsend, Tripp Townsend and Vincent Rahbani.
Buddy was the longtime store manager of Anthony’s dry goods store, which was located at East Fourth and North Main in Taylor. In 1979, Buddy changed careers joining Mrs. Baird’s bread as a route salesman, delivering bread to Taylor and surrounding area stores, until his retirement.
In his younger days, Buddy liked to rodeo and would compete in calf roping. Buddy had been a Taylor volunteer fireman and a Taylor Little League coach and a member of the Taylor Chamber of Commerce.
He also enjoyed dirt biking. Buddy and Karyl and the kids all had motorcycles for trail riding. They also spent many weekends on Lake Travis boating, skiing and camping.
Buddy and Karyl loved raising goats on their ranch near Byersville and entertaining grandkids who loved the fishing and adventuring on the ranch. Buddy’s passion was caring for his ranch and the animals and watching old western movies.
He was a good carpenter and did his own repairs and remodeling at home. He was also a good auto mechanic and enjoyed helping his grandkids with maintenance on their cars while wearing his favorite pocket tee.
He cherished time with family, telling stories, late night shopping trips with his daughters-in-law during get-togethers, and sharing the accomplishments of his grandchildren. Buddy gave each of us fond Grandpa stories to remember forever.
Buddy and Karyl’s long life together was a marriage of love, devotion, sharing and caring for each other. They raised a family together, worked together, played and prayed together.
After retiring, they spent many evenings on the back porch together watching the sunset beyond Brushy Creek. Buddy and Karyl set an example worth following.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
