Gene Finn

Gene was born on March 6, 1937, at his family home in Frame Switch to Walter and Hilda (Belz) Finn. He was raised in the Granger community and graduated from Granger High School in 1955.
On April 8, 1956, Gene married the love of his life, Victoria Zett. They shared 65 happy years of marriage until Victoria’s passing in 2022. Together, they raised five children.
Gene’s professional life included working on the family farm and serving as a repairman for the Taylor Laundromat. He eventually retired from TXU Electric & Gas Company after 27 years of service.
Deeply involved in his community, Gene served on the Granger ISD school board for 20 years and on the board of the Tri-County Point Property Owners Association in Boca Chica. He attended church with his wife at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria; his daughter, Sheila; his brother-in-law, Johnny Zapalac; great-granddaughters Faith Paau and Thalia Bernal; and great-grandson Adonijah Paau.
He is survived by his sons, Dwayne “Barney” (Sue) Finn and Wade (Cara) Finn; his daughters, Pamela (Phillip) Wagner and Vanessa (Michael) Gorubec; daughter-in-law, Peg Hines and his sister, Irlene Zapalac.
He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Christy Michalik, Kimberly (Dave) Briggs, Erica (Eddie) Croissant, Kari (Hondo) Gonzalez, Hayden Wagner, Jason (Stormi) Finn, Scott (Alicia) Fowler, Crystal Fowler, Aaron and Garrett Finn, Julia Elizondo, and Aubrie Gorubec. His legacy continues through 14 great-grandchildren — Sofia and Sabian Bernal, Ivory, Greyson and Noah Gonzalez, Henry and Lillian Briggs, Maverick Finn, Ander Hiney, Ella, Tom and Will Fowler, and Trennon and Lane Paau — as well as numerous cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 29, from 5-6:30 p.m., rosary followed. Funeral services took place Friday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m. All services were at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas.
Burial was at the Taylor City Cemetery. Meal followed at the KC Hall in Taylor.
Serving as Pallbearers were Jason Finn, Hayden Wagner, Aaron and Garrett Finn, Dave Briggs, Hondo Gonzalez and Sabian Bernal.
Honorary Pallbearers were Scott Fowler, Wayne Michalik, Melvin Marek, Benny Janecka, Tex Finn and Al Gardner.
Memorials can be made in honor of Gene Finn to Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger.
