David “Buck” Kyser

David Bland Kyser, also known to his family as Buck, was born in Austin on Oct. 13, 1949. David was the son of Bland and Charline Kyser.

He graduated from Manor High School in 1968 and received his Associate of Arts at Blinn College in 1970. In 1972, David received his Bachelor’s of Arts in Education from Southwest Texas University.

David went on to receive a Master’s of Education from Sul Ross State University in 1984. In 1986, David received his second Master’s degree in Education and a Superintendent’s Certification from Sul Ross State.

David began teaching at Taylor High in 1975. He returned to college in 1982.

David was the Principal of the Sierra Blanca Schools for four years as well as Superintendent for a year. David returned to teaching at Clear Creek High School in Houston for eight years.

David then moved to Dilley, where he was the high school Assistant Principal for five years and Principal for an additional one-and-ahalf years. David retired in 2007; however, he was not quite ready for retirement.

He returned to Dilley ISD for another four years as the Assistant Superintendent. David then became the Pastor of First Baptist Church of Webberville in 2016 to present.

David was a blessing for so many lives. He loved his family deeply and was always ready to help and lend an ear.

Each time you saw him, you knew he was happy to see you. He cared for his students with that same love and compassion.

To be his friend meant you were treated like family. David was also an adventurer.

He loved camping, 4-wheeling, water rafting, and taking road trips all over the US and Mexico. He loved to share those adventures, even scaring his sisters on the side of a few 4x4 trails. David filled many roles: teacher, caregiver, pastor, mentor, encourager, problem solver, brother, friend, nephew and Uncle Buck.

David is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Bland and Charline Kyser; grandparents, Charlie and Evelyn Hester, and Harvey and Annie Kyser; brother, Harvey Kyser; and brother-inlaws, Norman Brown and Roy Howell.

Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Carolyn Brown and Linda Howell; brother, Charlie and Sherrilynn Kyser; sister-in-law, Dena Kyser; his nieces and nephews, Lige, Niki, Bland, Stephen, Heather, Annie, KC, Ashley, Amanda, Lane, Travis, Ben and Jackson; his loving aunts, Lee Ellis, Artis Chambers and Martha Kyser; and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Elgin Funeral Home. To order flowers or share condolences with the Kyser family, visit us online at www.elginfuneralhome. net.
