Ancira Salsa, Texas Beer Co. co-host 2nd chili cook-off

Two Taylor-made businesses are once again pairing up some traditional Texas treats — beer and chili.

Ancira Salsa and the Texas Beer Co. are co-hosting the 2nd Annual Ancira Salsa Chili Cook-off 2-5 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Texas Beer Co., 1331 W. Second St.

In addition to brews and chili, the event features live music and barbecue.

Taylor rockabilly band Giddy Up Go is providing the tunes. Davis Grocery & BBQ will serve up brisket, sausage and ribs, among other eats.

The cook-off is open to both professionals and amateurs, organizers said.

Any kind of chili – from traditional Texas styles to recipes from around the country or the world – is acceptable for cooking.

Since the venue is taking place at the brewery, patrons will be able to purchase beer, including the Texas Beer Co.’s newest creation, Dillo Beer.

For every company brew purchased, patrons will receive a ticket to vote for chili.

Chili cookers can prepare the chili at home and bring it to the event. However, enough must be made for judges to sample.

The $25 entry fee will be put into a pot with prizes for the top three cookers.

The contest is decided by the judges/samplers.
