Friends are asking for the community’s help after a fire on Wednesday, Oct. 21 forced a man and a woman to flee a home burning just blocks from City Hall.
Taylor Fire Department officials Tuesday said the investigation continues into the blaze that destroyed a family home at 711 Porter St. No cause has been released, but the blaze reduced the structure to a charred wreck.
Taylor crews rushed to the home at 10:51 p.m. and found it consumed by flames.
According to officials, in addition to the home’s destruction, two neighboring structures sustained minor damage.
The Hutto and Round Rock fire departments assisted Taylor crews.
David and Debbie Jackson lost their home and belongings in the fire, according to a GoFundMe site created to help the couple recover.
The online notice said the fire quickly spread, leaving the couple with only moments to escape. They fled in their pajamas, and four of their cats perished.
Two dogs made it out alive, friends said.
The fundraiser will help the Jacksons replace essential items, including identification, clothing, shoes and other daily necessities, as they begin the recovery process, according to friends.
