In other business at the City Council meeting:
• The council set a proposed ceiling for the 2026 fiscalyear tax rate at 58.5 cents per $100 valuation, a 1% decrease.
• A city spokesman has announced an Aug. 28 meeting to consider the proposed budget and a Sept. 10 session to hold a public hearing on the budget and tax rate.
• The council received a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the Kimbro/Shaw Drainage Improvement Project, with an anticipated completion date in three years.
