Walraven named Hippos new head football coach

Walraven named Hippos new head football coach

Author: Tim Walter

HUTTO — Casey Walraven has been named the new head football coach at Hutto High School. He brings 15 years of head coaching experience, including four seasons building Alvarado High School into one of Texas’ top 4A programs.

The announcement comes after former head coach Eli Reinhart left the Hippos after one season to become offensive coordinator at Grand Valley State.

“I am incredibly excited for this opportunity to join Hippo Nation,” Walraven said. “First, I want to thank Ms. (Jeni) Neatherlin and Coach (Will) Compton for putting their trust in me to lead the next era of Hutto Football. This program is full of potential, and I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together at the highest level of Texas high school football.”

At Alvarado, Walraven’s teams averaged 62.4 points per game in 2025. He went 25‑2 over the last two seasons, reached back-to-back State Quarterfinals, and posted consecutive undefeated regular seasons — the first since 1994‑95, when he was the team’s quarterback.

“Coach Walraven is a seasoned veteran of the Texas coaching ranks with a strong history of building winning programs,” Neatherlin, Hutto Independent School District Superintendent, said. “I am confident his commitment to excellence will continue our momentum on the football field and throughout our athletic programs, as well as in the classroom, and in the community. We’re excited to welcome him to Hippo Nation.”

Compton, Hutto ISD Athletic Director, added, “His history of turning programs into state contenders while developing high-character student-athletes is exactly what we want for Hippo Nation.”

Walraven began coaching in 2002 at Kennedale High School and also led Cleburne (2017–21) and Grandview High School (2012–16) to playoff success.

He takes over a program coming off a 9‑3 overall record and a share of the district championship. With Walraven’s offensive expertise and Hutto’s returning talent, fans can expect an exciting season next fall.
