Granger’s new campus opens next month

Granger’s new campus opens next month

Classes start March 2 after repeated delays

GRANGER — After months of delays, the Granger Secondary School will welcome students and teachers for the first day of class March 2.

School board members heard the news during their regular meeting Thursday.

“(The new school) marks a meaningful step forward for our district’s commitment to excellence,” said Superintendent Stephen Brosch.

The campus initially was scheduled to open last August at the start of the 2025-26 school year. Problems with the city ’s outdated water infrastructure led to repeated postponements.

A 2022 voter-approved bond provided the funds for the $40 million building and athletic complex that will serve the district’s junior high and high school students. Granger Independent School District posted the campus transition plans and answers to frequently asked questions about the move at grangerisd.net.

“Hopefully, this will answer a lot of the common questions that I’ve already seen online,” Brosch said.

Granger ISD will hold an open house and provide tours of the secondary school 10 a.m. Feb. 25.

The district slated Feb. 27 as a day off for students but a move-in day for staffers as the district prepares to open the new facility.

–– Superintendent Stephen Brosch The continued delays in debuting the school involved drilling under the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. It took three bore attempts before the effort successfully was accomplished in January.

A few weeks later, the new school passed its fire flow test which is required by the county fire marshal before approving the building for occupancy.

Meanwhile, as the city was in the process of fixing its water system, leaks recently were discovered in the wastewater lines.

To allow students to move into the new school and athletic complex, Mayor Bruce Waggoner said the city will pay to have the wastewater lines at both locations pumped until repairs can be addressed and a new wastewater plant built.

The next school board meeting is 6:30 p.m. March 11 in the board room at 300 N. Colorado St.

Granger Secondary School, 17000 FM 971, will hold an open house 10 a.m. Feb. 25. Students will have their first day of school March 2.
