HUTTO — The Hutto Hippos varsity baseball team picked up its first district win in a 10-0 run-rule victory over the Manor Mustangs on Saturday, March 14.
Darey Esparza led the Hippos at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, highlighted by a three-run home run.
Landon Sadler earned the win on the mound, tossing a complete game over five innings. He allowed no runs on three hits while striking out eight.
Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings before Hutto broke through in the bottom of the third. The Hippos scored on a groundout and a passed ball on a strikeout to take a 2-0 lead.
Hutto erupted in the fourth inning, plating seven runs to extend its lead to 9-0. Carson Fields delivered a two-RBI single, and Esparza followed with his threerun homer to make it 7-0. Fields finished the game 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Kellen Littles added a two-RBI single later in the inning to push the lead to 9-0. The Hippos ended the game in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Kris Lopez, securing the run-rule victory.
Hutto closed out the series against Manor on Tuesday and will return to action at Round Rock Westwood on March 27.
