FRANKLIN – The Thrall Tigerettes varsity softball team picked up an 11-4 victory over the Franklin Lions on Friday, March 13 at Franklin High School.
The Tigerettes completed the sweep after defeating the Lions earlier in the week in a walk off thriller.
Both teams scored two runs in the first inning as Thrall had an RBI single from junior Kenzie Engelke and scored on a fielder’s choice. Engelke went 3-of-5 at the plate with two RBIs.
Franklin tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run homerun to make it 2-2.
Both teams were scoreless in the second inning before the Tigerettes took the lead back on an RBI single from sophomore Mireya Torres to make it 3-2. Torres went 2-of-4 from the plate with two RBIs.
Thrall added to its lead in the fourth as Selena Quintanilla scored on a ground out and freshman Addison Dickens hit a two-run homerun to make it 6-2 in the fifth inning. Dickens went 2-of-4 with three RBIs.
Franklin cut into the lead on a passed strikeout to make it 6-3 in the fifth inning. However, Thrall put the game away with two straight RBI singles from Engelke and Torres to make it 8-3.
Dickens added a solo homerun in the seventh inning as the Tigerettes scored three more runs to close the game.
Freshman Reese Madsen went 2-of-4 with two RBIs.
Senior Miley Pokorny threw a complete seven innings allowing four runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.
Thrall improved to 14-7 overall and 4-0 in district play as it hosts Harper on Friday, March 20, at 5 p.m.
