The red-hot Hutto Lady Hippos picked up another double-digit victory, defeating the Round Rock Dragons 13-3 on Friday, March 27.
Hutto’s offense was dominant throughout the night, with four players recording multiple RBIs, including Kaelyn Price, Sophie McElyea, M’Kayla Hicks and Keyouna Harris.
Hutto wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, jumping out to an early lead with three runs in the first inning.
Hicks delivered a two-run double to make it 2-0, and the Lady Hippos added another run on a groundout to extend the advantage to 3-0.
Both teams were held scoreless in the second inning, but Hutto broke the game open in the third.
The Lady Hippos plated five runs in the inning, beginning with a defensive error that allowed a run to score.
Harris followed with a two-RBI double to push the lead to 6-0. Hutto continued to apply pressure, adding runs on a groundout and a popout to stretch the lead to 8-0.
Round Rock responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the deficit to 8-3, but that would be as close as the Dragons would get.
Hutto quickly answered in the next frame, taking advantage of another error to extend the lead to 9-3.
The Lady Hippos continued to add insurance runs in the later innings. Price drove in two runs with a single, while McElyea added an RBI single to make it 12-3.
Price then capped off the scoring with a solo home run, sealing the 10-run victory.
With the win, Hutto improved to 20-9-1 overall and 9-1 in district play. The Lady Hippos faced McNeil on Tuesday and will travel to take on Round Rock Westwood on Thursday, April 2, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
