Hippos run rule Mavericks in 3 innings

HUTTO – It took just three innings for the Hutto Lady Hippos varsity softball team to defeat the McNeil Mavericks 15-0 on Tuesday, March 31. Kaelyn Price led the rout, going 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBIs.

Lady Hippos pitchers Molly Kreig and Jenna May combined for a perfect game, allowing no hits and no walks while striking out five.

Hutto scored three runs in the first inning on an RBI single by Makayla Hicks and an error to take a 3-0 lead, setting the stage for a massive second inning.

The Lady Hippos erupted for nine runs in the second. Price got things started with an RBI triple, and back-to-back doubles from Sophie McElyea and Kenna Spence extended the lead to 5-0. RBI singles from Hicks and Keyouna Harris pushed the advantage to 9-0.

Hutto then flipped the lineup in the same inning, as Price capped the frame with a three-run home run to give the Lady Hippos a 12-0 lead.

Kiyoko Earle added an RBI single in the third inning, and Bailey Kelley followed with an RBI triple to make it 14-0. Price closed out her standout performance with an RBI single to secure the 15-0 victory.

The Lady Hippos have now won 10 straight district games, averaging 10.2 runs per win, with nine coming by run rule.

Hutto faced Round Rock Westwood on Thursday and will return to action against Manor at home at 6 p.m.
