Taylor fire and police are still looking for answers in a backyard explosion that rocked a neighborhood and sent one person to an area hospital, officials said Friday.

“Fire personnel arrived on scene where they found an individual in the backyard with injuries who appeared to have been working on the house,” according to a release from the city.

Members of the Taylor Fire Department investigate an explosion that took place in the backyard of a residence on the 1800 block of Grace Street Thursday afternoon.

The wounded person, who was airlifted to a medical facility, has not been identified, nor is a condition or the extent of injuries known.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday behind a home in the 1800 block of Grace Street.

Several residents reported hearing a loud bang.

The Taylor Fire Department is leading the investigation with the Taylor Police Department assisting.

Officials said the blast was “not a house explosion,” but determined some type of ignition took place based on evidence gathered behind the residence.

A cause has not been determined, but investigators have ruled out foul play.

Atmos Energy, a natural-gas distribution business, also responded to the scene.
